Claire Ward-Thornton Illustrator & print designer
As the daughter of hairdressing parents based in the cattle market town of Melton Mowbray, I spent much of the 70's accompanying my mother to local residents homes for their weekly wash and blow dry, perm and set, or eyebrow and nasal trim. The early exposure to many and varying abode provided a love of interiors and a curiosity over individual taste and design along with a complete fascination with local characters and the importance of dialogue.
With pencil and paper and now a city girl, I continue in observation of my surrounding environment finding beauty in simple details, framing the everyday and indulging in the quirks. My paper cuts (much like grown-up snowflakes) are my second favourite thing to do. They present an exciting surprise once unfolded, transforming the ordinary into a brilliant festival of pattern.
CWT drawings, murals and handmade products aim to bring fun, humour and colour into our lives. Brightening our living spaces and celebrating our local communities.
